Netflix announced on the 27th that director Byun Sung-hyun's film 〈Good News〉 has been officially invited to the Special Presentation section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, which opens in September.
The Toronto International Film Festival, boasting the largest scale in North America, is an esteemed event regarded as one of the top four film festivals in the world alongside Cannes, Venice, and Berlin.
The Special Presentation section, to which 〈Good News〉 has been invited, showcases highly anticipated films that are gaining global attention. In the past, various Korean films such as 〈Veteran 2〉, 〈Decision to Leave〉, 〈The Age of Shadows〉, and 〈The Handmaiden〉 have been invited to this section.
Set in the 1970s, 〈Good News〉 is a thriller depicting the suspicious operations of people gathered to land a hijacked plane. Actor Seol Kyung-gu plays the role of an unidentified troubleshooter, while Hong Kyung takes on the role of an Air Force lieutenant involved in a secret operation.
Cameron Bailey, the executive director of the Toronto Film Festival, commented, "〈Good News〉 is a work that highlights the philosophy of innovation, authenticity, and a global perspective that the festival has upheld for the past 50 years."
〈Good News〉 will be presented as a world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival before being released to global audiences through the Netflix platform.
